Rough Sketches

  1. Hey Robert,

Good sketches. I like where you are going with these. Of the four sketches, I think #4 is your strongest. It plays up the whole paranoid obsessive compulsive nature in people that the story talks about. I would take this sketch more to the level of a finished illustration or to a cleaned up story board.

Things to consider when you work up your final drawing:

Camera point of view - is the camera level to the table, is it more above the scene? Drawing a foreshortened character is difficult. Maybe show him at more of a 3/4 point of view.

Setting: Where are they? Is it at home? At a fine restaurant? At a diner? Reference the story to see what setting they refer to. Do a google image search of a diner, for example. I would even find reference for a Hazmat Suit, glass of water, etc. Gather the reference you need to create a convincing environment.

What is the light source? Establish a light source so you know which way the shadows fall. Is it dramatically lit? How can your handling of light control the viewers eye?(It can be subtle or dramatic.)

Character: what is the attitude of the person in the Hazmat suit? Is he grossed out? Is he terrified? How do you push the attitude to sell that idea? Same with the characters. Are they oblivious to the person in the Hazmat suit? Are they aggressive and intimidating? Again, how can you push the attitude to really sell the idea that you are trying to convey? I will do a quick sketch of some of these ideas in play to show you what I mean.

Do what you can on this and by Wednesday evening. I will contact John Quin to see if he is ready for round two!
